Warriors win state opener, fall in quarter-finals

The EPC Warriors (22-9) led from start to finish as they downed Foreman 69-46 in the their opening round game last Wednesday in the Class 2A state basketball tournament being played in Quitman.

Xzavier Reed got EPC on the board first with a three-pointer as Foreman scored inside to make it 3-2 Warriors. Reed hit two free throws for EPC followed by a jumper in the lane from J'Sebian Brown to make it 7-2 Warriors with 4:24 left. Foreman drained a three-ball only to see EPC get a jumper from Jase Whitfield and a three-pointer from Reed to make the score 12-5 Warriors. The Gators hit a jumper, Reed stuck back an offensive rebound for EPC, Foreman scored inside as Isaiah Taylor hit a a jumper in the lane for the Warriors to make it 16-9 EPC at the end of one.

The Warriors opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run as Reed and Taylor hit back to back jumpers, Reed and Brown had back to back lay-ups with Reed hitting another jumper to make it 26-9 Warriors. Foreman hit two free throws to stop the run as Reed hit a jumper for EPC to make it 28-11 Warriors with 2:23 left. The Gators scored the next seven points to make it 28-18 as Whitfield hit two free throws with 26 seconds left to make the halftime score 30-18 EPC.
