Layne tops banner year with all-state selection

Bay sophomore Whitlee Layne had a dream season. She led her Lady Yellowjackets team to the Class 1A girls' state basketball title earning tournament MVP honors along the way. Layne garnered one more honor recently being selected to the 1A all-state team. Layne led the Lady Yellowjackets in scoring on the season with 19 points a game. She also averaged four assists, four rebounds and two assists a game. An 82% free throw shooter along with 38% from the three-point line, Layne has amassed over 1,500 points in her first two years of high school basketball. Other honors for Layne this past season included all-conference, all-regional, all-state tournament team, all-WBC tournament team, all-NEA tournament team, all-Liberty tournament team as well as Liberty Tournament MVP.
