Trumann participating in Great American Cleanup

Spring is here, and for many people that means it's time for spring cleaning. This week, April 3-7, the city of Trumann will be participating in the Great American Cleanup. The Sanitation and Street Departments will be making extra trips throughout the week to pick up items people want to get rid of.

"Everybody does spring cleaning," said Mayor Barabara Lewallen. "Next week is the perfect time."

The city will pick up most anything people want to get rid of including furniture, appliances, paper, and debris. This will also be the one time a year the city will pick up tires. Items like paint cans must have sand or cat litter in them to soak up the liquid as the city cannot pick up hazardous liquids. All items should be put on the curb for pickup.

"We do this every year," Lewallen said. "It's helps people get rid of trash, but we also do it to make the city clean, neat, and attractive. If you want to clean up, this is a good time to do it."

"You put it out there, and we'll pick it up," said Public Works Director Scotty Jones.
