Bids for street resurfacing approved
The Arkansas State Highway Commission approved several bids for resurfacing city streets, county roads, and state highways in Poinsett County last week.
The first bid includes resurfacing streets in Lepanto, Tyronza, and Black Oak. In Lepanto, 1.4 miles of of streets will be resurfaced, including: McClellan Avenue, Thomas Street, Alexander Avenue, and Oak Street. The 1.4 miles of Tyronza streets which will be resurfaced are Pocahontas Street, Hiawatha, Chickasaw Street, Oak Street, Pecan Street, Norcross Street, Emrich Street, Banks Street, and School Street. The bid will also include resurfacing one mile of streets in Black Oak.
According to the Arkansas Department of Transportation, the contract was awarded to Sugg Construction of Jonesboro at $608,632.63.
Three bids were approved for state highway and county road resurfacing. All three of these contracts were awarded to Atlas Asphalt of Batesville.
The first of these is for resurfacing 2.5 miles of State Highway 135 at Lepanto at $503,199.21. The second is to resurface sections of two miles of County Road 52 and a half mile of County Road 250 at Trumann at $310,804.80. The third is to overlay 5.1 miles of State Highway 163 between State Highways 14 and 214 at $749,298.98.
Construction is scheduled to begin in one to three weeks, weather permitting, with completion expected in late 2017.
