Junior Lady Wildcats take win over Marked Tree

Trumann jumped out to a double digit lead by halftime and held Marked Tree to nine points in the second half on their way to 50-23 win in junior high girls basketball action this past Tuesday at Wildcat Gym.

Kayde Jones opening the scoring as with one of two free throws to give Trumann a 1-0 lead. Shira Hendrix canned a three-pointer for Marked Tree to make it 3-1 before the Junior Lady Wildcats got a stick back basket from Emma Turner and one of two free throws from Caroline Morgan to make the score 4-3 Trumann. Hendrix hit two free throws for the Junior Lady Indians as Trumann's Haley Mathis put back an offensive rebound, Morgan scored off the fast break and Mathis added an inside basket to give the Junior Lady Wildcats a 10-5 lead with 2:40 left. MaKayla Marshall hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree, Hannah McClaughlin scored off he fast break for Trumann, Hendrix canned another three-ball for he Junior Lady Indians as Mathis had another stick back for the Junior Wildcats to make the score 14-10 Trumann after one.

McClaughlin drilled a three-pointer to open the fourth quarter for Trumann as Marshall hit a jumper for Marked Tree to make the score 17-12 Junior Lady Wildcats. Trumann reeled off the next 13 points as Mathis scored inside, McClaughlin got a fast break lay-up, Morgan hit two free throws and Mathis hit one of two free throws to make it 24-12. Morgan put back an offensive rebound, Mathis scored inside as Nygeria Jones scored off the fast break with 38 seconds left. Marshall hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree to make the halftime score 30-14 Trumann.

Marshall scored inside for Marked Tree to open the third quarter before Kayde Jones made back to back fast break lay-ups pushing Trumann's lead to 34-16 with 3:38 left. McClaughlin scored off the break as Turner stuck back an offensive rebound for the Junior Lady Wildcats making it 38-16. Nygeria Jones scored inside for Trumann, Marshall hit two free throws for Marked Tree as McClaughlin canned a three-ball and followed with a steal and lay-up for Trumann to make it 45-18. Taylor McCuiston netted a three-pointer from the top of the key for the Junior Lady Indians to make the score 45-21 Trumann after three.

McCuiston hit a jumper for Marked Tree to start the fourth quarter as Christina Jean-Paul hit a jumper for Trumann to make it 47-23 Junior Lady Wildcats. Trumann's Kayde Jones converted an old-school three-point play as Caroline Posey hit a jumper for the Lady Wildcats with 1:48 left setting the final score at 52-23 Trumann.

McClaughlin led Trumann with 14 points as Mathis finished with 11 points. Kayde Jones had eight points, Morgan had seven points, Turner and Nygeria Jones each scored four points as Jean-Paul and Caroline Posey added two points each for the Junior Lady Wildcats.

Marshall led Marked Tree with 10 points as Hendrix and McCuiston scored eight and five points respectively.
