Lady Wildcats hold on for win over Marked Tree

The Trumann Lady Wildcats almost let a nine point lead in the fourth quarter slip away as they held on to down Marked Tree 45-42 this Tuesday night in high school girls' basketball action in Trumann.

Olivia Greenwell opened the scoring with a three-pointer for Trumann as CJ Barnes went coast to coast for a Marked Tree lay-up to make the score 3-2 Lady Wildcats. Greenwell knocked down three consecutive three-pointers to make it 12-2 Trumann only to see the Lady Indians get a running jumper form Jayla Carter, a jumper in the lane from Barnes followed by a basket inside from Barnes to make the core 12-8 Trumann with 2:37 left. Tay Smith converted a conventional three-point play for Trumann as Carter answered with a three-pointer for Marked Tree to make it 15-11 Lady Wildcats. Kayla Spence got a stick back basket for the Lady Wildcats, Carter hit another three-pointer for the Lady Indians before Spence made back to back baskets to give Trumann a 21-14 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Carter and Jayla Carpenter hit back to back three-pointers for Marked Tree to start the second quarter making the score 21-20 Trumann. Mycha Wilson and Daly Taylor got back to back stick back basket for the Lady Wildcats to make the score 25-20 Trumann. Carter canned another three-ball for Marked Tree as Smith answered with a three-ball for the Lady Wildcats making it 28-23 Trumann with 4:14 left. Selena Lopez hit two free throws for Trumann, Destinee McGee netted a three-ball for Marked Tree as Lopez hit one of two free throws to give the Lady Wildcats a 31-26 lead at the half.'

Smith canned a three-pointer and Taylor put back an offensive rebound as Truman pushed the lead to 36-26 early in the third quarter. Brandice Nesby hit one of two free throws for the Lady Indians followed by two free throws from Carter to make it 36-29 with 3:21 left. Barnes and Carter both hit one of two free throws before Taylor hit one of two free throws for Trumann to make the score 37-31 Lady Wildcats. Marked Tree missed four straight free throws as Spence scored inside for Trumann making it 39-31 Lady Wildcats. Carter scored inside for Marked Tree only to see Heavenly Lofton drill a three-pointer for Truamnn to make it 42-33 Lady Wildcats at the end of three quarters of play.

Carter put back an offensive rebound before hitting one of two free throws for Marked Tree as Smith hit a jumper in the lane for Trumann to make the score 44-36 Lady Wildcats with 6:40 left in the game. Marked Tree got two free throws from Carter and back to back steals and lay-ups from Barnes to cut the lead to 44-42. Smith missed two free throws for Trumann as Nesby missed two free throws for Marked Tree before Greenwell hit one of two free throws for Trumann to make it 45-42 with 25 seconds left. Greenwell missed the front end of a one and one with five seconds left but stepped in front of the inbound pass of Marked Tree to seal the win for Trumann.

Greenwell scored 13 points to lead the Lady Wildcats as Smith finished with 11 points. Spence had eight points, Taylor scored five points, Lofton and Lopez each had three points as Wilson chipped in two points for Truman.

Carter led all scorers with 24 points for Marked Tree with Barnes finishing with 11 points. McGee and Carpenter each scored three points as Nesby added a point for the Lady Indians.
