Junior Indians fall short in tourney semi-finals

Marked Tree led at the end of the first three quarters but a Gosnell basket with 12 seconds left in the game gave the Junior Pirates a 39-38 win over Marked Tree in the first junior high semi-final game of the night last Thursday in Lepanto.

Gosnell jumped out to 4-0 lead before Marked Tree got back to back jumpers from Itavious Nesbitt and BJ Marshall and a stick back basket from Marshall to make it 6-4 Junior Indians with 2:43 left. The Junior Pirates tied it at six only to see Aayden Johnson hit a three-pointer for Marked Tree to make the score 9-6 Junior Indians. Gosnell put back an offensive rebound before Nesbitt hit one of two free throws to give Marked Tree a 10-8 lead after one.

The Junior Pirates tied it at 10 with a basket inside as Marshall hit one of two free throws to give Marked Tree the 11-10 lead. Gosnell had a stick back basket only to see the Junior Indians get a three-pointer from Johnson, two free throws from Waylon Driver and a basket in the paint from Marshall to make the score 18-12 Marked Tree with 1:48 left. The Junior Pirates added two baskets before the quarter ended to make it 18-16 Junior Indians at halftime.
