Junior Lady Warriors comeback falls short

The EPC Junior Lady Warriors cut a 10 point deficit to one at the end of three but came up short losing to Cross County 33-30 in junior high basketball action this past Thursday in Lepanto. The game was marred with four players, two students and a parent being ejected in the fourth quarter.

The Junior Lady Thunderbirds jumped out a 6-0 lead before EPC got a three-pointer from Keragan Gordon with 20 seconds left in the opening quarter. Cross County answered with a three-pointer to make the score 9-3 Junior Lady T'birds at the end of one.

Cross County pushed the lead to 13-3 early in the second quarter as Gordon hit one of two free throws for the Junior Lady Warriors to make it 13-4. Cyndee Rhinehart canned a three-pointer after a Cross County basket to make it 15-7 with 1:11 left. The Junior Lady Thunderbirds added a basket off the break to make the score 17-7 Cross County at halftime.

Gordon canned a three-ball from the top of key for EPC to start the third quarter as Edith Santo followed with a stick back basket for the Junior Lady Warriors to make the score 17-12 Cross County The Junior Lady T'birds hit a trey and a jumper before Santos hit one of two free throws and Gordon made two free throws making it 22-15 Cross County with two minutes left. The Junior Lady Thunderbirds hit two free throws only to see Gordon convert an old-school three-point play and hit a three-pointer before Emili Mangrum stuck back an offensive rebound to make it 24-34 Cross at the end of three quarters of play.
