Yellowjackets fall in NEA Invitational quarter-finals
Bay fell behind early in the opening quarter and could never catch up as the Yellowjackets fell 82-47 to Marked Tree in the quarter-final round of the NEA Invitational Tournament this past Saturday at the First National Bank Arena in Jonesboro.
Josh Willard gave Bay an early 2-0 lead before Marked Tree got a steal and jumper from Jack Brown, an old-school three-point play from Colby Malone, a tip in and three-pointer from Jack Brown and an inside basket from Paul Coleman to make it 12-2 Indians. Markel Perry got a two-handed slam off an assist off the backboard from Malone as Coleman hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree before Tyler Hartgen stuck back an offensive rebound for Bay making it 16-4 Indians with 1:51 left. Coleman had a stick back basket for the Indians followed by a jumper form Trayvius Brown as Dax Gibson hit a jumper for the Yellowjackets to make the score 20-6 Marked Tree at the end of one.
Coleman hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree to make it 22-6 before Aaron Jolly scored inside for Bay and Gibson hit two free throws for the 'Jackets to make the score 22-10 Indians. AJ Johnson hit one of two free throws for Marked Tree, Gibson hit two free throws for Bay, Perry hit one of two free throws for the Indians as Willard hit a jumper for the Yellowjackets making it 24-14 Indians with 3:59 left in the first half. Coleman converted a conventional three-point play for Marked Tree as Malone added a fast break layup before Jolly scored inside for Bay to make it 29-16 Indians. Coleman stuck back an offensive rebound for Marked Tree, Hartgen hit a jumper for the Yellowjackets, Malone canned a three-pointer for the Indians as Hartgen got a stick back for Bay to make it 34-20 Marked Tree. Gibson scored off the fast break for Bay before Julian Booker netted a jumper for the Indians to make it 36-22 Marked Tree at the half.
