Indians cruise past CRA in NEA semi-finals
Marked Tree raced out to a 30-8 lead after the first quarter on their way to a 72-32 win over Crowley’s Ridge Academy (CRA) this past Tuesday to earn a spot in the Division I championship game of the NEA Invitational Tournament being played in Jonesboro.
The Falcons got on the board first with a basket inside only to see the Indians score the next 11 points. Markel Perry scored inside, Trayvius Brown canned a three-pointer, Colby Malone got a steal and layup and then scored off the fast break as Trayvius Brown scored off the break to make it 11-2 Indians with 4:36 left. CRA canned a three-ball to make it 11-5 as Perry scored back to back baskets in the paint before Trayvius Brown stuck back an offensive rebound and added a jumper to make it 19-5 Marked Tree. The Falcons hit another three-ball to make it 19-8 only to see Marked Tree end the quarter on a 11-0 run as Trayvius Brown canned a three-pointer, Paul Coleman hit a jumper in the lane, Jack Brown got a steal and layup, Malone scored off the fast break before Perry got a stick back basket to make it 30-8 after one quarter of play.
AJ Johnson scored inside early in the second quarter for Marked Tree before CRA hit a jumper to make the score 32-10 Indians. Julian Booker hit a jumper for the Indians, Coleman scored off the break for Marked Tree as the Falcons connected on a jumper to make it 36-12 with 5:12 left. Coleman scored inside for the Indians, CRA hit a jumper, Johnson scored inside for Marked Tree as the Falcons hit another jumper to make the score 40-16 Indians. Johnson put back an offensive rebound for Marked Tree, Trayvius Brown netted a three-ball for the Indians, CRA scored inside before Booker's jumper gave Marked Tree a 47-18 lead. The Falcons scored back to back baskets as Malone scored off the break to make the halftime score 49-22 Marked Tree.
