Harrisburg cruises past Newport at Kell Classic

Harrisburg jumped out to a double digit lead over Newport in the opening quarter before cruising to a 83-54 win over the Greyhounds in opening round action this past Monday in Swifton.

Newport hit back to back three-pointers to take an early 6-0 lead before Harrisburg seven straight points as Zach Biggers scored off the break, Weston Stanford got a steal and layup before hitting two free throws as Biggers hit a jumper in the lane to make it 7-6 Hornets with 4:30 left. The Greyhounds scored inside for their last lead of the night at 8-7 as Harrisburg reeled off 12 points to go up 19-8. Walker Brown started the run with two free throws and a jumper, Biggers canned a three-pointer, Gavin Casebier scored inside as Biggers connected on another three-pointer. Newport got a basket inside, Biggers drilled another trey for Harrisburg, the Greyhounds scored in the paint before Casebier got a basket inside for the Hornets to make it 24-12 at the end of the first quarter.

Casebier opened the second quarter with a two-handed slam for Harrisburg as Dylan Mathis followed with a fast break layup for the Hornets to make it 28-12 Harrisburg. Newport got a stick back basket, Brown scored inside for Harrisburg, the Greyhounds hit a a jumper as Stanford scored inside for the Hornets to make it 32-16 Harrisburg with 5:52 left. Newport hit a baseline jumper, Casebier hit two free throws for the Hornets, the Greyhounds netted a jumper before Harrisburg scored the next seven points with Brennon Honeycutt canning a three-ball as Stanford scored back to back baskets to make the score 41-20 Hornets. The Greyhounds scored inside, Honeycutt hit two free throws for Harrisburg before Newport hit two free throws and scored down low to make it 43-26 Hornets. Stanford drilled a three-pointer for Harrisburg, Newport went coast to coast for a layup, Honeycutt hit two free throws for the Hornets as the Greyhounds hit two of three free throws after a foul on a three-point attempt to make it 48-30 Harrisburg at the half.
