Lady Warriors get season sweep over Marked Tree

EPC (8-14M 3-3) made it a regular season sweep over the Lady Indians (4-19, 0-4) with a 55-44 win this past Thursday in high school girls' basketball action in Lepanto. The Lady Warriors beat Marked Tree 49-41 back on December 4.

Markiya Ward gave EPC the early 2-0 lead with a stick back basket before Marked Tree got one of two free throws from Brandice Nesby, one of two free throws from Jayla Carter and another one of two free throws from Nesby to make it 3-2 Lady Indians. Bre Ward drilled a three-pointer for the Lady Warriors. Nesby scored inside for Marked Tree before Ramissa Acosta hit a jumper for EPC making it 7-5 EPC with 3:06 left. Carter scored in the paint for Marked Tree as Madison Wiggins canned a three-ball for the Lady Warriors as Markiya Ward added one of two free throws for the Lady Warriors making it 11-7 EPC. Carter scored from the paint again for the Lady Indians before Markiya Ward hit a jumper for the Lady Warriors to make the score 13-9 EPC after one quarter of play.

Marked Tree tied the game at 13 as Nesby scored downed low and Carter hit two free throws early in the second quarter. Taylor Hannah canned a three-pointer for EPC only to see Carter score inside for the Lady Indians with C.J. Barnes adding a running jumper for Marked Tree to give the Lady Indians a 17-16 lead with 5:07 left in the half. Indian O'Bannon hit one of two free throws for EPC, Carter hit two free throws for Marked Tree as Hannah scored inside for the Lady Warriors making it 19-19. Markiya Ward scored inside for EPC followed by a stick back basket from Wiggins give EPC a 23-19 lead. Carter hit two free throws for Marked Tree, Markiya Ward netted a three-pointer for the Lady Warriors, Barnes hit one of two free throws for the Lady Indians before O'Bannon hit a jumper for EPC to make it 28-22 Lady Warriors. Jayla Carpenter added two free throws for the Lady Indians with 41 seconds left to make the halftime score 28-24 EPC.
