Junior Yellowjackets down KIPP in district opener
Bay posted a 50-39 win over KIPP Blytheville this past Wednesday to advance to the semi-finals of the 1A/2A-10 junior high district tournament being played in Earle.
Paiton Hartley gave Bay the early 2-0 lead with a basket inside as KIPP hit a jumper in the lane to tie the game. Tyler Fraley got inside for a basket to give the Junior Yellowjackets a 4-2 lead only to see the Thunder scored the next five points to take a 7-4 lead with 4:10 left. Gunner Darby hit a jumper in the lane for Bay, KIPP answered with a jumper, Hartley hit two free throws for the Junior Yellowjackets as the Thunder scored inside to make it 11-8 KIPP. Zeke Davis hit two free throws for Bay before Hartley scored inside to give the Junior 'Jackets a 12-11 lead at the end of one.
Bay opened the second quarter with a 5-0 run as Davis scored inside, Hartley added a basket in the paint before hitting one of two free throws to make it 17-11 Junior Yellowjackets. KIPP hit a jumper in the lane, Davis scored inside for Bay as the Thunder canned a three-pointer making the score 19-16 Bay with just under a minute left in the half. Chance Arender and Darby scored back to back baskets for the Junior Yellowjackets as KIPP hit one of two free throws and had a tip in at the buzzer to make it 23-19 Bay at the half.
