Marked Tree cruises past Salem in district opener

Salem hung with Marked Tree for the first half of the opening quarter. The Indians turned up the heat building a double digit lead and never looked back on their way to a 74-31 win in the opening round of the 2A-2 district tournament in Lepanto.

Paul Coleman scored inside to give Marked Tree an early 2-0 lead before Salem scored inside and hit a three-pointer to make it 5-2. Coleman scored inside again for the Indians as Trayvius Brown canned a three-pointer for Marked Tree got give the Indians a 7-5 lead. Salem drilled a three-pointer to make it 8-7 Greyhounds only to see Marked Tree score the next nine points as Markel Perry got a stick back and canned a triple, Trayvius Brown scored off the break and Coleman stuck back an offensive rebound to make it 16-8 Indians with 2:25 left. Salem hit a three-ball before Perry stuck back an offensive rebound and Trayvius Brown canned a three-ball for Marked Tree to push their lead to 21-11 at the end of one.

Salem scored inside for the first points of the second quarter only to see the Indians reel off 13 straight points as Trayvius Brown drilled a three-ball, Jack Brown scored off the break, Trayvius Brown drilled another three-pointer before Jack Brown hit two free throws and a three-pointer to make the score 34-13 Marked Tree with 4:10 left. The Greyhounds hit a jumper, Colby Malone had a fast break layup for the Indians, Salem canned a three-ball, Julian Booker netted a three-pointer for Marked Tree before the Greyhounds hit another three-pointer making it 39-21 Indians at the half.
