Wildcats advance at district with win over Harrisburg
Ben Turner poured in 33 points for Trumann as the Wildcats downed county rival Harrisburg 88-69 in their opening round game of the 4A-3 district tournament this past Tuesday in Harrisburg.
MJ Barnes opened the game with a three-pointer as Brennon Honeycutt answered with a three-pointer to make it 3-3. Barnes canned another three-ball for the Wildcats before Walker Brown netted a three-ball and added a fast break layup to make it 8-6 Hornets. Cody Roland hit two free throws for Trumann, Gavin Casebier scored inside for Harrisburg as Trumann got an inside basket from Turner, two free throws from Roland, a stick back from Zach Buchanan and another basket inside from Turner to make it 15-10 Wildcats. Honeycutt drilled his third three of quarter only to see Barnes score back back baskets for Trumann giving the Wildcats a 19-13 lead at the end of one.
Casebier hit two free throws for the Hornets early in the second quarter as Honeycutt drilled a three-pointer making it 19-18 Wildcats. Roland hit a three-ball for Trumann, Honeycutt drilled another trey for Harrisburg before Trumann got one of two free throws from Buchanan and a stick back from Turner to make the score 26-21 Wildcats. Barnes hit two free throws for Trumann, Honeycutt drilled his sixth trey of the game for Harrisburg as Turner netted two free throws for the Wildcats making it 30-24 Trumann with 3:05 left. Roland got a layup off the break for Trumann, Weston Stanford hit two free throws for Harrisburg, Turner scored inside for the Wildcats as Brown hit two free throws for the Hornets to make it 34-28 Wildcats. Roland drilled a three-ball for Trumann, Brown added two more free throws for Harrisburg before Turner converted an old-school three-point play to make the score 40-30 Wildcats at the half.
