Tree for three - Indians top EPC for district title
Marked Tree (26-0) won their third straight district title this past Friday with a 45-38 win over county rival EPC in Lepanto. This was the second year in a row Marked Tree and EPC were in the finals. With the win, Marked Tree set a new school record in consecutive wins with 26.
The Indians got on the board first as Markel Perry hit one of two free throws before EPC got an inside basket from TJ Bush and two of three free throws from Travis Joplin after he was fouled shooting a three-pointer to make it 4-1 Warriors. Perry hit a jumper for Marked Tree and added one of two free throws to tie the game at 4 with 3:50 left in the quarter. Malone got inside for a Marked Tree basket as Perry hit one of two free throws for the Indians to make the score 7-4 Marked Tree at the end of one.
Joplin hit one of two free throws on back to back trips to the line for EPC as AJ Johnson hit two free throws for Marked Tree to make it 9-6 Indians early in the second quarter. Jonathan Gilmore scored inside for EPC only to see Marked Tree get two free throws from Trayvius Brown, a jumper from Perry and a fast break layup from Trayvius Brown to give the Indians a 15-8 lead with 3:04 left. Isaiah Taylor scored in the paint for the Warriors, Perry hit a jumper in the lane for Marked Tree before Dee Buchanan drilled a three-pointer for EPC making it 17-13 Indians. Jack Brown hit two free throws for Marked Tree as Buchanan's jumper for EPC made the score 19-15 Indians at the half.
