Lady Yellowjackets tumble in regional finals
Bay (30-6) let a seven point fourth quarter lead slip away as Norfork, the top ranked team in Class 1A, got hot in the fourth quarter and came away with a 54-44 win and the 1A 2 regional title this past Saturday in Armorel.
Mallory Hartley put back an offensive rebound to give Bay a 2-0 lead early in the opening quarter before the Lady Panthers scored inside and drilled a three-pointer to take a 5-2 lead. Sarah Blackman hit two free throws for the Lady Yellowjackets as Norfork hit one of two free throws to make it 6-4 Lady Panthers with 3:11 left. Kaylee Crain tied the game at six with a jumper for Bay only to see Norfork score the next six points to go up 12-6. Olivia Ferguson canned a three-ball with two seconds left in the quarter making it 12-9 Norfork after one quarter of play.
Bay scored the first six points of the second quarter as Hartley scored inside, Crain got a basket in the paint before Hartley got inside for another score to make it 15-12 Bay. Norfork responded with one of two free throws and back to back baskets in the paint to make it 17-15 Lady Panthers. Hartley canned a three-ball with just under a minute left to make the score 18-17 Bay at the half.
