EPC ousted in opening round of state tournament

EPC (19-13) couldn't rebound from a 15-3 England run at the beginning of the fourth quarter as the Warriors fell to the Lions 71-64 last Thursday in the opening round of the Class 2A state playoffs played at White County Central in Judsonia.

EPC got an early 1-0 lead as TJ Bush hit one of two free throws before England hit a three-pointer and got a steal and layup to go up 5-1. Dee Buchanan hit a running jumper for the Warriors as the Lions scored the next five points making the score 10-3 England. Jonathan Gilmore scored in the paint for EPC as England hit a jumper to make it 12-5 Lions with 2:04 left. Isaiah Taylor drilled a three-ball for the Warriors, the Lions hit a jumper in the lane before Travis Joplin canned a three-ball to make the score 14-10 England after one.

The Warriors tied the game at 14 with back to back baskets from Buchanan and Preston Rains as the Lions scored inside to go up 16-14. Gilmore converted an old-school three-point play and Buchanan hit a jumper for the Warriors as EPC took a 19-16 lead with 3:04 left. England scored inside only to see EPC get a three-ball from Buchanan and a layup and two free throws from Joplin making the score 26-18 Warriors. The Lions cut the lead to 26-23 at the half with a three-ball and fast break layup.
