Higgins tosses shutout against Trumann

Bay's Nathan Higgins tossed a three-hit shutout while striking out 11 batters as the Yellowjackets stung Trumann 17-0 in their season opener this past Friday in Trumann.

Bay jumped out a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Andrew Oester led off with a single as Higgins followed with a single. The runners moved up on a passed ball before Brycen Thomas drew a walk to load the bases. Jimmy DuVall delivered a single that scored Oester and Higgins. Thomas scored on a double steal with DuVall before DuVall stole third base only to be left there when Jacob Sparks, Kyle McAdams and Trey Norris all struck out. Jax Williams grounded out as Dakota Craig struck out for two quick outs. Jesse Penter and Jackson Walton had back to back two-out singles for the Wildcats only to be left stranded with Izzy Carillo struck out for the third out leaving the score 3-0 Bay after one. The Yellowjackets plated five more runs in the top of the second inning sending eight batters to the plate. Hunter Scott led off with an infield single before Chance Arender moved him to second base with a sacrifice bunt. Oester singled to score Scott making it 4-0 Bay. Oester stole second base before Higgins reached on an infield single as Oester scored on an error on the play to make it 5-0 'Jackets. Thomas drew another walk before DuVall reached on an error that plated Higgins and Thomas making it 7-0 Bay. Sparks' ground out brought home DuVall as Arender struck out for the third out with Bay leading 8-0. Rafe Samuel struck out leading off the bottom of the second inning for Trumann as Brant Montgomery followed with a single for Trumann. Montgomery was left on base as Chris Webb flew out and Gunner Parks watched strike three go by ending the second inning with Bay up 8-0.
