Warriors fall to Rivercrest in benefit game
EPC fell behind early in the first quarter and couldn't rebound as the Rivercrest Colts handed the Warriors a 48-0 loss in a benefit game this past Tuesday night at Cortez Kennedy Field in Wilson.
EPC got the ball first and moved it out close to midfield before they were stopped on fourth and five turning the ball over to the Colts. Rivercrest took advantage as they drove the field and scored with 7:52 left. The extra-point made it 7-0 Colts. The Warriors didn't fare well on their next drive as a five yard run, an eight yard loss on a bad snap and a incomplete pass forced EPC to punt the ball away. The Colts took over on at midfield with 6:20 left and wasted little time finding the end zone on a long run with 5:41 left. The point-after was no good leaving the score 13-0 Colts. Rains had a pass intercepted on the next EPC drive with Rivercrest taking over at the Warriors' 37 yard line. The Colts again capitalized on the turnover with a touchdown and extra-point to make it 20-0 Rivercrest with 2:55 left. EPC had to punt the ball away on their next possession with 50 seconds left in the quarter. The quarter ended during the Colts drive with the score 20-0 Rivercrest.

The Colts took to the air for next touchdown with 3:40 left as the point-after made the score 27-0. Rains' pass was again intercepted by Rivercrest giving them the ball on Warriors' 30 yard line. The Colts again took to the air to put the ball in the end zone with 2:20 left. The extra-point was good making the score 34-0 Rivercrest. EPC moved the ball in Rivercrest territory only to see a four down pass to a wide open Tysean Garrett be just a little long giving the ball back to the Colts with 22 seconds left. Rivercrest ran out the clock to end the first half up 34-0.
Rivercrest scored on their first possession of the second half as the mercy rule was in effect. The point-after made it 41-0. EPC had to punt the ball back to the Colts on their first possession of the second half as Rivercrest took over on their own 42 yard line. The Colts again found the end zone with 3:16 left. The extra-point made the score 48-0. The third quarter ended during the Warriors' drive.
EPC moved the ball to Rivercrest 20 yard line only to see Rains sacked on fourth down giving the ball back to the Colts with seven minutes left. The Colts used the running game to run the clock out to take the 48-0 win.
“We want to compete better that we did tonight,” EPC head coach Brandon Powell said after the game. “We saw some positives we can build on and we saw some things that we will need to work on. This is what these games are for. We look forward to getting better and ready for next week's opener,” Powell added.
