Lady Hornets down Trumann in four sets

The Lady Hornets (2-2, 1-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead before going on to beat the Lady Wildcats 25-13, 25-19, 19-25, 25-20 in high school volleyball action this past Monday at the Hornets' Nest.

Harrisburg jumped out to a 7-1 lead in the opening set and pushed the lead to 14-3 before a Jana Morgan kill made it 14-4. The Lady Wildcats added another point before the Lady Hornets reeled off the next four points to go up 18-5. Sydney Callahan had a kill for Trumann, the Lady Wildcats' serve was long as Kayna Gardner got a kill for Harrisburg making the score 20-6 Harrisburg. The teams traded points to make it 23-10 before the Lady Wildcats scored three straight points to make it 23-13. Harrisburg scored the last two points to take set one 25-13. The second set was a back and forth match with neither team going up more than two points until late in the match. Harrisburg scored first before Trumann got a kill from Mycha Wilson to make it 1-1. Haley Mathis gave the Lady Wildcats a 7-6 lead with a kill before Harrisburg scored the next two points with Blair Wright's kill making it 8-7 Lady Hornets. Wright's kill and Destany Lovell's service ace made it 10-9 Harrisburg. The teams traded points to make it 12-11 Harrisburg only to see Trumann score four straight points with Maci Williams serving an ace as Jana Morgan had back to back kills and a side out score to make it 15-12 Lady Wildcats. Harrisburg scored back to back points before Wilson's kill for Trumann made it 16-14 Lady Wildcats. The teams again traded points with Harrisburg going up 21-18 forcing Trumann to use a time-out. The Lady Hornets scored the next three points to go up 24-18, the Lady Wildcats scored a point before Harrisburg scored again to take the 25-19 win.

The Lady Hornets got out to a 5-3 start before a Mathis block and there service aces from Jana Morgan put the Lady Wildcats up 7-5. The teams traded points to 12-12 before Trumann scored three straight that included a Jana Morgan block to make it 15-12. Harrisburg scored a point only to see the Lady Wildcats score straight points, the last on Wilson ace, to make it 19-13 Trumann with Harrisburg called a time-out. The Lady Hornets scored the next four points with Kenzie Douglas serving two aces and Trumann hitting two ball out of bounds making the score 19-17 Lady Wildcats. Trading points to 21-19, Trumann scored the last four points with a Mathis kill, back to back service aces from Callahan and Harrisburg hit ball into the net to take the 25-19 win. The Lady Hornets jumped out a 3-0 lead in the fourth set with Carly McCrary serving two aces for Harrisburg. The Lady Hornets pushed the lead to 6-2 as Trumann called a time-out. Harrisburg scored the first three points after the time-out before Trumann got a kill from Jana Morgan to make it 9-3 Lady Hornets. Harrisburg to a side out point as the Lady Wildcats scored three straight to make the score 10-6 Harrisburg. The Lady Hornets scored four straight that included a Shaw Faulkner ace to make it 13-6 before Trumann score a point making it 13-7. Lovell's service ace made it 15-7, McCrary's service ace made it 17-8 Harrisburg as Jenny Walton's kill for Trumann made the score 17-9 Lady Hornets. Trumann outscored the Lady Hornets 5-3 over the next few minutes making the score 20-14 Harrisburg. A serve into the net by Harrisburg made it 20-15 as the Lady Hornets scored the next three points to make it 23-15 and force the Lady Wildcats to take a time-out. Trumann's net violation made it 24-15 Harrisburg before the Lady Wildcats scored four straight points to make it 24-20 forcing the Lady Hornets to take a time-out. Harrisburg hit the ball out of bounds to make it 24-21 before Trumann was called for a double hit making the score 25-21 giving Harrisburg the match.

McCrary finished 11-12 serving with five service aces and 15 assists as Jadyn Hesse had 17 assists, five kills and two blocks. Chloe Morgan had 11 kills, Faulkner had four service aces and 20 digs, Gardner was 14-14 serving with seven kills with Lovell and Peden recording six and four kills respectively.

Jana Morgan led the Lady Wildcats with 11 kills, six blocks, three service aces, four digs and one assist as Williams added 10 assists, four digs, two kills and two service aces. Hannah McClaughlin had 21 digs, two assists, one kill and one service ace, Callahan had 15 digs, two kills, two service aces and one block, Wilson had 11 digs, two blocks, two kills and one service ace, Mathis had four kills and three block as Mallory Mincy finished with six assists, five digs, three blocks, three kills and a service ace.
