Marked Tree falls in semi-finals of junior high tournament

Marked Tree won the first quarter of their semi-final match-up only to see Valley View win the last three quarters as the Junior Blazers beat the Junior Indians 50-39 in one semi-final game of Ben Ford State Farm Invitational junior high tournament this past Friday in Bay.

The Junior Indians jumped out to a 4-0 lead as Brylan Honeycutt hit a jumper in the lane and BJ Marshall scored inside before Valley View scored off the break making it 4-2. Tray Jones hit a jumper in the lane as the Junior Blazers scored the next six points to make the score 8-6 Valley View with 2:47 left. Itavious Nesbitt hit one of two free throws, Marshall scored off the fast break and Honeycutt hit two free throws to make it 11-8 Marked Tree. Valley View got a stick back late to make the score 11-10 Junior Indians after one.

Valley View opened the second quarter with a 6-0 run to go up 16-11 before Marshall converted an old-school three-point play to make it 16-14 Junior Blazers. Valley View scored back to back baskets, Nesbitt stuck back an offensive rebound as the Junior Blazers scored inside and hit one of two free throws to make the score 23-16 Junior Blazers with 2:10 left. Nesbitt scored three straight baskets for Marked Tree only to see Valley View net a three-ball with two seconds left to make it 26-22 Junior Blazers at the half.
