Junior Wildcats fall 53-33 to Valley View in tournament finals

Trumann (3-1) fell behind early and never recovered as the Valley View Junior Blazers beat the Junior Wildcats 53-33 in the finals of the Ben Ford State Farm Invitational junior high tournament this past Saturday at Bay.

Valley View scored the first four points before Drew Osment canned a three-pointer to make it 4-3 Junior Blazers. Rian King’s running jumper made it 6-5 before Azani Smith drilled a three-ball to tie the score at 8 with 3:50 left. Valley View scored the next five points to make it 13-8 as Devin Miles hit a three-pointer for the Junior Wildcats to make the score 13-11. Miles hit a jumper for Trumann during the Junior Blazers’ 8-2 run to end the quarter with Valley View leading 21-13.

The Junior Blazers pushed the lead to 25-13 before Miles hit one of two free throws making it 25-14. Valley View converted a conventional three-point play, Miles scored inside, the Junior Blazers hit a jumper before Trumann got back to back baskets from Parks McNair and Smith to make it 30-20 Junior Blazers with 1:07 left. McNair scored inside between two Valley View free throws and a three-pointer as the Junior Blazers took a 35-22 at the half.
