Junior Indians take Gerald Jennings championship
In a tale of two halves, Marked Tree won the half that counted as they held off Trumann to win the junior high division of the 2018 Gerald Jennings Tournament this past Saturday in Marked Tree.
Trumann jumped out to a 7-0 lead as Trent Creekmore canned a three-pointer, Azani Smith hit a jumper and Parks McNair hit a jumper in the lane. BJ Marshall and Itavious Nesbitt scored back to back baskets for Marked Tree to make it 7-4 with 2:09 left. Drew Osment drilled a three-ball for the Junior Wildcats, Marshall scored inside before hitting one of two free throws for the Junior Indians to make it 10-7 Trumann. Nesbitt scored inside for Marked Tree only to see Osment hit a jumper in the lane late to give the Junior Wildcats a 12-9 lead after one.
Smith scored inside and Osment drilled a three-ball for Trumann to push their lead to 17-9 before Marked Tree got a jumper in the lane from Marshall and a basket in the paint from Nesbitt to make the score 17-13 with 4:03 left. Osment drilled another trey for the Junior Wildcats, Nesbitt hit one of two free throws for Marked Tree followed by a fast break layup from Marshall to make it 20-16 Trumann. The Junior Wildcats got a jumper in the lane from McNair and an inside basket from Devin Miles before Nesbitt stuck back an offensive rebound to make it 24-18 Trumann at halftime.
