Strong second half carries Indians to win over Marked Tree
Marked Tree outscored EPC 47-33 in the second half to take a 72-61 win in 2A-6 high school boys basketball action this past Friday in Marked Tree.
TJ Bush gave EPC the first lead of the game with a runner only to see Israel Malone get a stick basket for Marked to make it 2-2. Jack Brown had back to back coast to coast layups for the Indians to make it 6-2 Marked Tree before the Warriors got a jumper in the lane from Tysean Garrett, a three-pointer from Lavonta Taylor and a three-pointer from Michael Williams to make it 10-6 EPC with 2:44 left. Trayvius Brown hit two free throws for the Indians, Taylor hit another three-ball for EPC as Jack Brown drilled a three-pointer for Marked Tree to make the score 13-11 Warriors. Jonathan Gilmore hit one of two free throws for EPC as teammate Preston Rains got a steal and layup to give the Warriors a 16-11 lead. Trayvius Brown canned a three-pointer for the Indians and followed with two free throws to make it 16-16 at the end of one.
Jack Brown opened the second quarter with a fast break layup before EPC got back to back baskets from Gilmore and Williams to make it 20-18 EPC. Trayvius Brown scored inside for Marked Tree to tie the game at 20 before Jamario Burris scored inside for EPC to make it 22-20 Warriors with 4:59 left. Brennon Honeycutt stuck back an offensive rebound for the Indians, Tysean Garrett got inside for an EPC score as Trayvius Brown canned a three-ball for Marked Tree to make the score 25-24 Indians. Malone hit two free throws for the Indians before throwing down a one-handed dunk to push the Marked Tree lead to 29-24. Burris and Rains had back to back stick back baskets before Jack Brown drilled a three-pointer for the Indians making it 32-28 Marked Tree. The Indians got one of two free throws from Honeycutt and a runner from Jack Brown to make the halftime score 35-28 Marked Tree.
