Israel Malone scored 22 points and grabbed 15 rebounds as the Marked Tree Indians beat Marmaduke 63-49 in the 2A North Regional tournament in Rector. The win clinches a spot in the 2A state basketball tournament next week in Carlisle. Brennon Honeycutt added 14 points, Jack Brown had 11 points and Itavious Nesbitt added 10 points. Marked Tree was in action again this past Friday as they lost to Clarendon 60-50 in the semi-finals. Jack Brown scored 17 points to lead the Indians as Malone scored 10 points.
EPC won their opening round game with a 55-54 win over Rector last Wednesday in the 2A North Regional tournament in Rector. Jay Gilmore scored 22 points for the Warriors as Preston Rains added 16 points for EPC. The Warriors came back and played Earle in the semi-finals on Friday losing 53-51. Gilmore led EPC with 24 points as TJ Bush added 11 points for the Warriors. EPC and Marked Tree played in the consolation with the Warriors getting a 72-66 win as Gilmore scored 25 points to lead EPC. Lavonta Taylor finished with 18 points, Bush had 13 points with Jamario Burris netting 10 points for the Warriors.
The EPC Lady Warriors (10-15) were ousted in the 2A North Regional basketball tournament losing to Melbourne 65-28. Keragan Gordon led EPC with seven points as Tileyah Ward and Emili Mangrum scored six points each. Bre Ward added five points as Kaylee Hood and Jessica Gonzalez chipped in two points each for the Lady Warriors.
