Indians capture 2A-6 conference title over EPC

A bases loaded walk brought in the winning run as Marked Tree took an 11-10 win over EPC to win 2A-6 conference title in high school baseball action this past Monday in Marked Tree.

Kern Kline led off with a single for EPC in the top of the first inning before stealing second base. Gavin Constant struck out, Preston Rains reached on a fielder’s choice as Kline was tagged out in a rundown between second and third. Tysean Garrett struck out for the third out. Jarrett Harsson grounded out leading off the bottom half for Marked Tree as Brennon Honeycutt struck out. Eli McCrary walked only to see Chaz Simmons strike out to end the inning with the game still 0-0. McCrary set EPC down in order in the top of the second as Jason Daniels grounded out before Deuce Moore and Colby Moore both struck out. Rains came on to pitch for the Warriors as Zander Criswell flew out leading off for Marked Tree in the bottom half as Braden Francis walked. Jackson Parrish reached on fielder’s choice that forced Francis at second base. Logan Smith and Aiden McGuire both walked to load the bases before Parrish scored on a passed ball to make it 1-0 Indians. Smith scored on a passed ball to make it 2-0 Marked Tree before McGuire was thrown out trying to steal third base to end the inning.

EPC plated five runs in the top of the third as Peyton Edings led off with a walk. Jordan Smith and Kline both drew walks to load the bases as Edings scored on a single by Constant to make it 2-1 Indians. Rains doubled to bring in Smith, Kline and Constant to make the score 4-2 Warriors. Garrett’s ground out scored Rains who had moved to third on a wild pitch making it 5-2 EPC. Daniels walked before Deuce Moore looked at strike three and Colby Moore went down swinging. Smith entered the game to pitch for EPC as Harsson singled leading off. Honeycutt was hit by a pitch, McCrary walked before Simmons popped out. Criswell’s fielder’s choice forced McCrary at second base as Honeycutt was thrown out trying to go to third base on the play to end the inning with EPC leading 5-2. The Warriors added three more runs in the top of the fourth as Edings grounded out leading off. Smith singled, Kline walked and Constant singled to load the bases. Rains ripped a triple to clear the bases scoring Smith, Kline and Constant to make it 8-2 EPC. Garrett struck out and Daniels grounded out for the third out. Francis struck out leading off the bottom of the fourth before Parrish and Smith had back to back singled. McGuire’s sacrifice bunt moved the runners up a base before Harsson doubled to score Parrish and Smith making it 8-4 Warriors. Honeycutt struck out to end the inning.
