Wildcat track athletes qualify for state track meet

The Trumann Wildcats boys’ track and field team had several athletes qualify for the Class 3A state track meet this past Monday in Osceola. The Wildcats finished fourth as a team with 84 points as the Lady Wildcats finished seventh as a team with 12 points.

Will White qualified for the state meet in three events winning the long jump with a leap of 21’ 4.5". White finished second in the 100m dash with a time of 11.06 seconds and was a member of the 4 x 100m relay team along with Zach Buchanan, Milton Lewis, III and Dedrick Coleman that won with a time of 44.83 seconds. Also qualifying for the state tournament was the 4 x 400m relay team of Maddox Dycus, Rian King, Trenton Creekmore and Coleman who finished second with a time of 3:51.28 and the 4 x 800m relay team of Dycus, King, Creekmore and Keifer Scott also qualified for the state meet finishing second with a time of 9:54.60. All the runners on the 4 x 800 are freshmen.

Other who placed earning points for their teams were Mycha Wilson on the girls’ team who finished third in the 100m dash with a time of 13.00 seconds, fourth in the long jump at 14’10.5” and seventh in the 200m dash with a time of 28.58 seconds. On the boys’ team, MJ Barnes finished third in the high jump at 5’8” as Jonah Haynie finished fourth in the discus with a throw of 106’2” and placed ninth in the shot put with a heave of 36’7.5”. Buchanan finished fifth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.36 seconds and took third in the 200m dash with a time of 23.18 seconds. Lewis finished eighth in the 100m dash with a time of 11.75 seconds. Coleman took third in the 400m run with a time of 57.38 as Dycus finished sixth in 59.79 seconds. Creekmore ran the 800m run in 2:32.80 to take third place as Scott finished sixth with a time of 2:44.41.

Others who competed for the Trumann boys were Rian King with a high jump of 5’6”, a long jump of 15’6” and a triple jump of 36’3”, Coleman with a long jump of 17’9”, Scott with a triple jump of 31’6”, Dycus with a triple jump of 28’8.5”, Haynie with a shot put of 36’7.5”, Mario Coronado with a shot put of 29’0.5” and a discus throw of 80’1” and Austin Pruitt with a shot put of 28’3” and a discus throw of 81’4”.
