Warriors ousted in 2A North Regional opener

EPC fell behind early and could never catch up as the Warriors fell 14-7 to Salem in the opening round of the 2A North Regional baseball tournament this past Friday in Marked Tree. EPC ends their season with a record of 7-12.

Salem used three hits and took advantage of an EPC error to score four runs in the top of the first inning to take an early 4-0 lead. Kern Kline walked to lead off the bottom half of the inning for EPC as Gavin Constant was hit by a pitch. Preston Rains singled to load the bases before Tysean Garrett struck out. Jason Daniels reached on a fielder’s choice but as Kline was forced out at home. Peyton Edings walked to score Constant making it 4-1 Greyhounds. Colby Moore struck out to end the inning. Salem scored five runs on three hits and two Warriors errors in the top of the second inning to make the score 9-1 Greyhounds. Candon Argo struck out looking leading off the bottom for EPC as Jordan Smith popped out. Kline walked, Constant reached on an error and Rains walked to load the bases as all were left on base when Garrett watched strike three to end the inning.

The Greyhounds went down in order in the top of the third inning as Jason Daniels was hit by a pitch leading off the bottom of the inning for EPC. Edings drew a walk as did Moore to load the bases. Argo's fielder's choice scored Daniels to score making it 9-2 Salem. Smith followed with a fielder's choice grounder that forced Moore out at third while Edings came in to score making it 9-3 Greyhounds. Kline and Constant both popped out to end the inning. Salem added another run in the top of the fifth as Rains came on with one out and two runners on to get a fly out and strikeout to keep the score 10-3 Salem. Rains walked leading off the bottom of the fourth and went to second on a passed before stealing third and scoring on a throwing error on Daniels' fielder's choice to make it 10-4 Greyhounds. Edings popped out as Daniels was caught off base for a double play to end the inning.
